Project Manager (Research)

Who we are

Physical Intelligence is bringing general-purpose AI into the physical world. We are a group of engineers, scientists, roboticists, and company builders developing foundation models and learning algorithms to power the robots of today and the physically-actuated devices of the future.

The team

Within Ops, there are three functions: Prototyping, Process Engineering, and Production Ops. This role will sit in Prototyping — the starting point of the pipeline, where research intent gets translated into executable plans before anything moves downstream.

In this role you will

-Maintain continuity of task intent as work moves beyond early prototype validation into evals (and potentially back again!) ensuring consistency across episodes and environments

-Partner closely with researchers to preserve design decisions over time and reduce coordination load so they can stay focused on task design and policy performance

-Serve as the primary escalation point for operator questions and execution edge cases, ensuring issues are resolved once and carried forward

-Track and propagate failure cases across related tasks and environments to prevent repeated rediscovery

-Work with prototypers and instruction writers to ensure tasks transition cleanly into reliable, well-documented evaluation use

-Collaborate with hardware to surface constraints early and help prioritize needs across projects

-Coordinate across researchers, prototypers, instruction writing, operators, and runtime to keep tasks interpretable, aligned, and executable as they scale
