Project Manager - Civil / Highway Infrastructure
Required Skills
Job Description
This is a field-leadership role at a company that has been quietly doing complex, high-stakes infrastructure work for decades — the kind of contractor that gets called for highway projects, bridge systems, and large-scale concrete demolition that most firms don't have the equipment or certifications to touch. With multiple active divisions and a strong pipeline of DOT-contracted work, they're at an inflection point where the right operational leader can make a visible, lasting impact on how projects run in the field. If you're the type of PM who thrives when you own the outcome — not just the paperwork — this is worth a conversation.
What You'll Own
• Take the lead on field coordination across active highway and civil infrastructure projects — drainage, guide rail/bridge rail, and concrete demolition — from mobilization through closeout
• Manage and supervise field crews across multiple simultaneous job sites, ensuring crews are deployed effectively, work is progressing on schedule, and quality standards are being met
• Serve as the primary point of accountability for day-to-day project execution: labor coordination, subcontractor oversight, safety compliance, and daily field decisions
• Identify and close efficiency gaps in the field — this company knows where they want to improve and they're hiring someone with the judgment to help get them there
• Maintain proactive communication with the office team on project status, cost performance, and schedule variances
• Participate in pre-construction planning and, for candidates with estimating experience, support the estimating process for upcoming bids (projects ranging up to $4M)
• Be willing and available for overnight travel as required by project location — work spans across New York State and into neighboring states along major DOT corridors
Requirements:
• Demonstrated experience managing field crews on highway, civil, or heavy infrastructure projects — you know how to lead people, not just schedule them
• Comfort navigating DOT-regulated project environments: documentation requirements, safety protocols, and public agency expectations are familiar territory
• A superintendent's instincts paired with a project manager's discipline — someone who can be in the field and in front of a schedule at the same time
• Experience in any combination of drainage/utility, bridge/guide rail, or concrete demolition is a genuine advantage; candidates from adjacent highway civil backgrounds will be considered
• Estimating familiarity is a plus, not a dealbreaker — the right field leader who can grow into bid support is equally compelling to this client
• Ability and willingness to travel overnight; projects are distributed across a wide geography and this role requires presence on the ground
• Valid driver's license; clean driving record
Benefits:
• Competitive salary, determined based on experience — our client has indicated flexibility and is committed to paying market rates for the right candidate
• 100% employer-paid medical insurance — this is a full premium coverage benefit, not a cost-share arrangement
• Health Savings Account (HSA)
• 401(k) retirement plan
• Profit-sharing program
• Company vehicle provided as needed for the role
• Direct access to senior leadership — this is a small, tightly run operation where your work is seen and your input matters
