Role Overview
The Project Manager, BioLabs Tokyo will play a critical role in supporting the successful launch and operations of the BioLabs Tokyo site. The Project Manager will work closely with the launch team to establish BioLabs’ presence in the regional life sciences ecosystem, support occupancy growth through the recruitment of resident companies, and cultivate relationships with strategic partners and sponsors.
The role serves as the first employee for Biolabs Tokyo and presents key operational bridge between the Tokyo site and BioLabs headquarters, especially during the launch period and ensuring establishment of company standards, processes, and strategic priorities at the site. This position combines project management, business development support, ecosystem engagement and operational coordination to launch BioLabs Tokyo as a leading innovation hub for life science entrepreneurs.
Key Responsibilities
Site Launch & Project Coordination
Represent BioLabs on the ground with local partners, vendors and service providers
Support the launch team in planning and executing all activities related to the opening of the BioLabs Tokyo site.
Coordinate cross-functional efforts between local stakeholders and BioLabs headquarters to ensure alignment on operational standards, timelines, and priorities.
Occupancy & Business Development
Support occupancy goals through outreach to prospective resident companies and by contributing to the development of the site’s business pipeline.
Assist with sponsorship outreach and engagement efforts to build strategic partnerships that support site programming and ecosystem growth.
Ecosystem Engagement & Partnerships
Help cultivate and maintain relationships with universities, venture capital firms, industry organizations, and other stakeholders in the regional life sciences ecosystem.
Represent BioLabs Tokyo in community and ecosystem engagement activities to strengthen BioLabs’ regional presence.
Marketing, Events & Community Building
Support external marketing initiatives that promote the BioLabs Tokyo brand and attract prospective resident companies.
Coordinate and execute events, programs, and networking activities that strengthen community engagement and increase site visibility.
Strategic & Operational Support
Conduct market and competitive analyses to inform pricing strategies and identify growth opportunities.
Collaborate with the Business Operations & Strategy leadership team to streamline operational processes and improve efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support evolving operational and business needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or PhD in life sciences or a related field) preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in business development, partnerships, marketing, operations, or related roles in the biotech or life sciences sector.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, business-level command of English and Japanese.
Experience with early-stage companies, venture investment, or innovation ecosystems preferred.
Experience supporting sales and marketing initiatives, business development outreach, and pipeline development preferred.
Experience supporting budgets, forecasting, and program financial management.
Highly organized, proactive, and collaborative, with strong relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with the broader BioLabs network.
Availability to support occasional after-hours events and respond to site-related matters as needed.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
