Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join the  Strategic Programmes Office (SPO) and lead key initiatives within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) on a 12month fixed term basis. This role has been created to support strategically important Faculty projects, including a significant focus on Undergraduate Health courses, alongside other key Faculty priorities.

This opportunity sits within a fast paced, complex and evolving environment, working closely with Faculty leadership and a wide range of professional staff across the University. Stakeholders span academic colleagues, central operations teams, timetabling professionals, and senior finance and delivery roles, reflecting the significant operational complexity of health related academic programmes.

Day to day delivery involves leading project teams with the authority and accountability to progress work effectively. Support is provided by a  an established project management community, including a people focused PM Practice Manager who will work alongside you on resource allocation, professional development, and the application of project management best practice.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) fixed-term (12-month) position, with a salary range of $120,000 - $140,000, depending on skills and experience.

This role suits a confident and capable Project Manager who can step into a complex, fastmoving environment and make an immediate impact. A delivery orientated mindset, sound judgement, and the confidence to take ownership of work that is still evolving are essential. Comfort with ambiguity and competing priorities allows momentum to be maintained while keeping sight of the wider context.

Success in this opportunity relies heavily on strong interpersonal capability. The ability to build credibility quickly, engage thoughtfully across the faculty and wider University, and support effective collaboration is critical. Clear, diplomatic communication and a facilitative approach underpin shared problem solving, particularly when working with diverse stakeholders in high pressure situations.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

You will have:

• Relevant project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP)
• End‑to‑end project delivery experience, including planning, budgeting, resourcing and risk management
• Ability to select and apply appropriate project management approaches to suit context and complexity
• Proven capability in delivering projects with significant organisational and operational impact
• Confidence working with senior level academic and/or professional stakeholders
• Strong facilitation skills, translating complex problems into clear plans, milestones and delivery pathways

Experience in tertiary, academic, curriculum, research or health related environments would be beneficial, but is not essential.
