About Us
Suncoast Built designs and manufactures premium custom outdoor living structures, including screen rooms, louvered roofs, and enclosures, for homes, restaurants, and commercial spaces across North America. With over 30 years of craftsmanship and a reputation for durable, practical designs suited to harsh climates, we're expanding rapidly in Canada and the U.S. We're looking for driven professionals who thrive on solving complex problems, diving into technical details, and collaborating to deliver standout projects.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Project Engineer to support the design, analysis, and development of custom outdoor enclosure systems and aluminum framing structures. This role sits within our Research & Development team and works closely with sales, drafting, production, and permitting teams to ensure projects are structurally sound, code-compliant, and ready for fabrication and installation.
You’ll play a key role in translating design concepts into buildable engineered solutions. The position combines structural analysis, project support, and product development.
What You’ll Do
Perform structural modeling and analysis for custom aluminum framing systems and outdoor enclosure structures.
Design structural systems using materials such as aluminum, steel, wood, and engineered framing components.
Analyze loads, stresses, connections, and material behavior to validate structural performance under real-world conditions including wind, snow, and live loads.
Prepare structural calculations, engineering drawings, and supporting documentation for permitting and engineering review.
Review architectural drawings, project plans, and site conditions to ensure structural feasibility and constructability.
Work closely with sales, project managers, and drafting teams to translate project concepts into code-compliant, buildable structural designs.
Support permitting by preparing calculation packages and coordinating with licensed professional engineers for jurisdictional review and stamping when required.
Assist the drafting team in converting conceptual designs into detailed fabrication drawings and engineering documentation.
Visit job sites when needed to assess conditions, troubleshoot structural challenges, and provide technical recommendations.
Collaborate with the R&D team to design and test new structural components, systems, and product improvements.
Evaluate structural performance using modeling, simulation, or physical testing methods, and support product validation initiatives.
Identify opportunities to improve structural efficiency, manufacturability, and overall product performance.
Maintain accurate engineering records, calculations, and documentation in accordance with internal standards and applicable building codes.
Work with production teams to ensure structural designs are practical for fabrication, assembly, and installation.
What You’ll Bring
3–5 years of experience in structural engineering, product design engineering, or a related role within construction, manufacturing, or building products.
Experience performing structural analysis and working with structural modeling software.
Experience using CAD or design software to create or review technical drawings.
Familiarity with building codes, structural design standards, and permitting processes.
Experience preparing structural calculations, drawings, or engineering documentation for review by licensed engineers.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to technical detail.
Experience working with aluminum framing systems, structural metals, or engineered building systems is considered an asset.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta or Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in the United States is considered an asset but not required. Engineers-in-Training (EIT) working toward licensure are encouraged to apply.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally for site visits if required.
