Job Description
The Project Engineer (Assembly Bay) is responsible for the end-to-end coordination and delivery of assembly and testing activities within the manufacturing facility. This role ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with schedule, quality standards, and contractual requirements, while proactively managing risks, resolving technical queries, and driving cross-functional alignment across production, procurement, quality, and client stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of assembly and testing activities to meet project schedules and milestones
• Review engineering specifications, drawings, and procedures to ensure constructability, resource readiness, and alignment with manufacturing requirements
• Monitor progress against schedule, identify risks or delays early, and implement recovery plans in collaboration with production and project teams
• Act as the key interface between Jord International, Jord Malaysia, and internal teams to resolve technical queries, deviations, and clarifications
• Coordinate with clients, third-party inspectors (TPI), and quality teams to ensure inspections, testing, and approvals are completed on time
• Drive timely submission and closure of technical queries (TQs), deviations, and variation orders (VOs)
• Ensure timely availability of all free-issued and locally procured materials required for assembly and testing
• Work closely with procurement, stores, and vendors to track deliveries, resolve documentation issues, and prevent delays to production
• Ensure all assembly, welding, testing, and inspection activities are conducted in accordance with approved procedures, codes, and ITP requirements
• Coordinate hydrotesting, NDE, flushing, drying, FAT, and final inspections to meet project and client expectations
• Drive closure of punch lists, NCRs, and quality issues to ensure successful project completion and handover
• Ensure adequate resources (labour, equipment, facilities) are in place to deliver assembly and testing efficiently
• Proactively identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to optimise productivity and minimise downtime
• Maintain accurate reporting of progress, delays, risks, and mitigation actions, including raising delay or overbudget events where required
• Oversee packing, dispatch, and logistics coordination to ensure compliance with contractual and client requirements
• Ensure timely submission of documentation including MDRs, inspection records, and shipping documentation
• Proactively resolve issues, facilitate collaboration across teams, and support continuous improvement in assembly and delivery processes
• Adhere to all Jord company policies and IMS requirements
Skills and Experience:
• Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in project engineering within fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy industry.
• Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and assembly processes, ideally within air-cooled heat exchangers or pressure equipment.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects, coordinate multiple stakeholders, and deliver to tight deadlines.
• Solid knowledge of quality standards, inspection processes, and relevant industry codes.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in project management tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera) and engineering systems (e.g. AutoCAD).
