About Your Role
CMTS is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support College Project Teams (CPT) in the successful delivery of educational facility construction projects throughout Los Angeles, CA. This role provides technical and engineering support to Project and Construction Managers while coordinating closely with Program Management Office (PMO) staff, contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants, and College personnel.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of supporting multiple projects in a fast-paced construction environment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in:
Engineering
Construction Management
Business
Or a related field
Additional qualifying experience exceeding the minimum requirements may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done
Minimum 5–8 years of recent professional experience in a similar or equivalent project or construction management support role
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to take initiative and make sound decisions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and shop drawings
Knowledge of construction processes, documentation, and contract administration
Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and project teams simultaneously
Proficiency with project management systems and Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting educational facility programs and projects
Experience working on Division of the State Architect (DSA) projects
Experience supporting central plant projects
Experience working on large public works programs
Experience using Proliance or similar PMIS systems
Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or similar industry credentials
What You’ll Do
Participate in and occasionally lead design and construction meetings
Conduct field inspections on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, alteration, addition, and repair projects to verify compliance with plans, specifications, College standards, and DSA requirements
Read and interpret construction plans and shop drawings
Assist in preparing written correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines
Support development of weekly and monthly status reports, including project photo documentation
Review, estimate, negotiate, and process construction change orders and field orders
Review and enforce construction and professional services contracts
Manage and coordinate contractors and outside consultants, including invoice review and approval
Assess project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies and risk registers
Facilitate resolution of construction and design-related issues
Coordinate with architects regarding RFIs, submittals, and Construction Change Documents
Generate and distribute meeting minutes for construction and design meetings
Verify contractor maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payments
Maintain project files in both electronic and hard copy formats
Review submittals for compliance with project plans and specifications
Generate and draft Proposed Board Actions (PBA)
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned
