Position Overview
The Project Accountant is responsible for protecting job margin integrity, maintaining cost accuracy, and strengthening project-level financial visibility. This role supports the Controller and partners directly with Project Managers and Operations to ensure disciplined cost tracking, reporting accuracy, and workflow efficiency.
The position requires strong project-based accounting expertise and a forward-thinking, technology-driven mindset focused on continuous process improvement.
Core Responsibilities
Project Cost Accounting & Margin Control
Set up and maintain project job cost structures, cost codes, and budgets
Monitor budget vs. actual performance and identify cost variances
Track committed costs, subcontractor agreements, and vendor obligations
Maintain accurate WIP schedules and support percent-complete revenue recognition
Analyze margin fade/gain and proactively escalate risk indicators
Ensure proper documentation and financial impact tracking of change orders
Reconcile project costs to POs, contracts, and billing milestones
Complete and drive accurate milestone billing and revenue timing
System Optimization & Accounting Infrastructure
Optimize accounting workflows
Strengthen job cost reporting reliability and data integrity
Identify process inefficiencies and implement scalable workflow improvements
Drive ERP system enhancements (Foundation preferred but not required)
AI-Driven Automation & Technology Leadership
Maintain a tech-forward mindset focused on leveraging AI and automation tools
Proactively identify opportunities to apply AI including
Cost coding accuracy and anomaly detection
Margin variance analysis and reporting insight
Use AI tools to enhance financial insight, forecasting support, and KPI visibility
The expectation is not theoretical AI interest — but practical application to improve speed, accuracy, and operational finance intelligence.
KPI Reporting & Operational Partnership
Strengthen project-level KPI dashboards (gross margin, labor utilization, billing cycle time, cash impact by project)
Provide real-time cost visibility to Project Managers
Complete and drive budget discipline through consistent reporting and reconciliation
Identify billing delays, cost overruns, and margin risk early
Serve as the financial accountability partner to Operations
Required Qualifications
3–5+ years of project-based accounting experience in telecom, construction, engineering, or infrastructure environments
Strong working knowledge of job costing, committed cost tracking, and WIP reporting
Experience with percent-complete revenue recognition
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, variance modeling)
ERP experience required (Foundation strongly preferred)
Demonstrated experience improving accounting workflows or implementing automation tools preferred

The Project Accountant will serve as the operational execution arm of the Controller, ensuring accounting precision, systems evolution, and financial visibility at the project level.
