We are looking for our next experienced Project Accountant for some exciting new projects coming up in the Calgary area.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the CFO the Project Accountant provides financial and administrative support to the Construction Group by managing the financial components of assigned construction projects. The role partners with Project Managers and project teams to ensure accurate cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Cost Control
Maintain job cost reports and project budgets.
Track commitments, purchase orders, subcontract costs, and labour charges.
Identify cost variances and communicate issues to the Project Manager.
Maintain project cost reports and job cost tracking from project setup through close-out.
Monitor project budgets, commitments, and expenditures and identify cost variances.
Provide financial analysis and reporting to Project Managers and senior leadership.
Assist with forecasting project costs and revenues
Billing & Revenue
Prepare monthly progress billings, owner draw documentation, and holdback calculations.
Assist with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
Review subcontractor invoices and ensure compliance with contract terms.
Maintain subcontract and purchase order logs
Financial Reporting
Produce monthly project financial statements and cost-to-complete forecasts.
Reconcile project accounts and maintain accurate financial records.
Support quarterly and year-end financial reporting.
Project Administration
Assist with change order tracking and contract documentation.
Support project close-out and final cost reconciliation.
Liaise with operations, procurement, and corporate finance teams.
Support internal and external audits.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
2–5 years accounting experience, preferably in construction or project accounting.
Strong knowledge of job costing and construction billing processes.
Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
Experience with ERP systems, considered an asset.
Excellent communication skills to work with operations and project management teams.
