The HEAT Program Specialist is responsible for answering general phone calls, intake, processing, and eligibility determination of applications for the Home Energy Assistance Target (HEAT) program.
Essential duties:
Provides client support by assessing each situation and determining the best course of action.
Conducts "editing tasks" on processed files to ensure accuracy.
Gathering and updating information
Completes general reception and administrative duties.
Performs utility crisis intervention and provides referrals when applicable.
Provides budgeting counseling to clients.
Screens and assesses client's eligibility.
Maintain confidentiality and clients' rights
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Experience in social services, case management, or administrative roles involving financial eligibility
Must be able to operate multi-line phone systems and standard office machines and equipment
Proficient in MS Office and Google Suite. Requires basic knowledge of Google Workspace, Zoom and a willingness to learn new software applications.
Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and anticipate department needs
Must be patient and flexible with the ability to take on multiple projects at once
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships
Strong ability to navigate difficult conversations with empathy and professionalism
Accurate data entry skills
Requires an ability to function between various databases
Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required for serving our diverse community members
High school Diploma or equivalent
Working conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This will be an hourly position and will work 40 full-time hours each week.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while processing digital applications and performing data entry. The individual must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
