THE ROLE
Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a Program Facilitator, Mental Health and Addictions.
The Program Facilitator, Mental Health and Addictions is responsible for developing, implementing, and facilitating programming to help community members including individuals and families, identify and address gaps in their wellness including but not limited to addictions, mental health and family crisis. Programming will focus on providing information and raising awareness Of new and changing community resources, mental health and addiction supports available, treatment, and prevention within the Fort McKay community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with and provide supportive resources to Fort McKay community members who are experiencing grief, loss, separation, early childhood trauma, anxiety, depression; addiction to alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, or tobacco; or who experiencing interpersonal issues and concerns.
Develop and implement programs that will include substance use day treatment, substance use prevention programs, and a substance use information series.
Work alongside the manager and community organizations on developing and implementing education presentations on harm reduction.
Develop and implement psychoeducational programs as well as substance use programs for the community.
Collaborate with other professionals to discuss programs that could benefit the community.
Develop intervention programs that are based on research and clinical experience.
Develop programs that are culturally relevant and actively work with Elders in the community.
Provide information about addiction and mental issues and about available services and programs and make appropriate referrals where necessary.
Conduct information sessions, therapy groups, and prevention programs as needed.
Record and report program statistical data to supervisors, Chief and Council, and Indigenous Services Canada.
Complete ongoing professional development by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social agencies.
Perform other duties as required.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience is required.
Experience running group sessions and meetings.
Experience working in an Indigenous community including knowledge of First Nations’ culture, traditions and values is considered an asset.
Diploma in social work, psychology, addictions, health promotion or equivalent education is required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
