About the Role:

This role sits at the intersection of AI models, user behaviour, and conversion.
Retake’s output quality depends directly on the inputs users provide. At the same time, user willingness to provide those inputs depends on clarity, perceived value, and trust.
You will own the full first-session experience — from image upload and photo selection to first enhanced output — and the performance metrics that define its success.
This means owning both the experience and its numbers.
You’ll be directly responsible for improving key metrics such as upload completion rate, first-generation rate, activation, early retention, and paywall reach.
You’ll work closely with design, data, engineering, and our internal AI research teams to continuously refine how users interact with the model. By understanding where users struggle, drop off, or misunderstand the product, you’ll help prioritise improvements that reduce required inputs, increase clarity, and improve output consistency.
This is not a cosmetic onboarding role.
It’s about designing the interaction layer between humans and a generative AI system — and making it intuitive, high-performing, and scalable.

What you'll do:

◦ Own the onboarding and first-session flow end-to-end.
◦ Take ownership of driving improvements in CVR, activation, and early retention, ensuring measurable impact on key growth metrics.
◦ Continuously iterate UX, messaging, and flow structure to improve clarity and performance.
◦ Design and run structured experiments to reduce friction while maintaining or improving output quality.
◦ Partner closely with AI research teams to translate user behaviour and failure cases into model improvement priorities.
◦ Balance fewer input requirements with strong, reliable outputs and sustainable generation cost.
◦ Conduct user interviews and qualitative research to uncover confusion, trust gaps, and expectation mismatches.
◦ Define what a “great first output” means and increase the likelihood that users reach it.

What you bring:

◦ You bring 2+ years of experience leading initiatives that materially improved core product metrics such as activation, CVR, retention, or revenue, with clear, measurable impact.
◦ You are confident in taking responsibility for performance outcomes, rather than merely delivering features.
◦ You have experience iterating onboarding or early user journeys in consumer products.
◦ You’ve run structured experiments and can connect UX changes to measurable business outcomes.
◦ You’re genuinely curious about how AI systems work. You don’t need to be an ML engineer, but you’re excited to understand how inputs influence outputs.
◦ You’re comfortable working in systems where results are probabilistic rather than fully deterministic.
◦ You communicate clearly across design, engineering, data, and research teams.
◦ You take ownership naturally and think in systems, not isolated features.

Nice to have:

◦ Experience working on AI-powered or generative products.
◦ Exposure to computer vision or diffusion-based models.
◦ Strong experimentation background.
◦ Experience improving activation in subscription-based consumer apps.
◦ Experience collaborating closely with ML or research teams.
