CRB is a privately held company with a rich history of serving clients throughout the world, consistently striving for the highest standard of technical knowledge, creativity and execution.

The Process Utilities Engineer III is responsible for leading the design and execution of defined scopes of work within a project, such as individual systems, unit operations, or designated process areas. This role manages scope, budget, and schedule for their assigned responsibilities and supports projects of small to medium size with a level of complexity aligned to their experience.

This position requires frequent and effective communication with clients to understand design requirements, translate those requirements into executable scope, and clearly document decisions, open issues, and action items to ensure continuous progress. The Process Utilities Engineer III is expected to recognize deviations from contracted scope or changes in design direction and elevate these items to the Discipline Lead or Project Manager as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead process utilities system design programming and planning for assigned project scopes.
• Manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities, and direct the work of junior engineers and designers.
• Coordinate and communicate regularly with internal and external engineers, clients, construction managers, trade partners, and vendors.
• Work independently or under the direction of a Lead Engineer or Project Manager, depending on project needs.
• Participate in and contribute to cross-discipline and discipline-specific design reviews, ensuring overall project quality.
• Perform technical quality checks of design calculations, drawings, and documentation for intermediate to complex projects.
• Develop construction drawing packages and write construction specifications for intermediate projects with limited oversight.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineering and design staff.
• Support construction activities including RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and construction progress reporting.
• Develop basic internal discipline-specific training materials and presentations.

Advanced Project Activities

The Process Utilities Engineer III may participate in more complex or experience-driven activities, including:

• Technical bid evaluations and tabulations
• Vendor package coordination and management
• Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
• Risk assessments
• HAZOP, HACCP, and similar safety or operability reviews
• 3D model reviews, coordination, and clash resolution
• Preparation of Sequences of Operations and review of Functional Specifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a discipline-specific field from an ABET-accredited program
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an operating company or engineering/design firm within a related industry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Intermediate knowledge of applicable industry standards, regulatory guidance, and statutory building codes

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
• Proficiency with discipline-specific engineering software (e.g., hydraulic modeling, pipe stress analysis)
• Experience supporting commissioning, startup, qualification, operations, or troubleshooting of process utility systems
• Experience coordinating and managing design efforts within a multidisciplinary project team, including interaction with construction trade partners and vendors
