FMI’s Private Equity Services Practice focuses on supporting financial sponsors investing in the built environment with consulting services and value creation efforts. Our clients span the range of financial sponsors from $100+ billion AUM firms to independent sponsors and family offices. With FMI’s more than 70+ years of exclusive focus on the built environment, our mission is to help financial sponsors unlock growth, enhance performance, and create lasting value in this vital industry.
We are seeking a high-energy consultant with at least two years of experience as a Project Manager, Superintendent, or related role in a trade contractor or civil construction firm. The right candidate will demonstrate a curiosity driven and detail-oriented mindset. The role involves working with our financial sponsor clients pre and post transaction to provide advisory services such as operational due diligence and value-creation plan development. You will gain first-hand experience working with the stakeholders in the deal process and throughout the hold period. The role will engage with confidential information and be at the leading edge of M&A activity occurring in the built environment.
This is a full-time opportunity that requires medium travel (<30%) and will be based out of our office in Denver, Colorado.

Responsibilities
Quickly understand WIP and job performance reporting data
Assess and communicate target company operational health and opportunities for organizational development
Work directly with principals and partners to assess, analyze and develop a methodology to test and implement the financial sponsor’s investment thesis
Project manage consulting engagements with accelerated timeframes that are data intensive and require strong teamwork
Quickly distill important operational insights from interviews with target firm leadership, interviews with leading industry stakeholders, reviewing comparable firm operational data, and by leveraging FMI’s 70+ years of experience servicing the leading organizations in the built environment
Develop compelling presentations and reports that tell a story to deliver strategic insight
Challenge and contextualize multiple data points and information to create actionable insights from noisy and potentially conflicting information
Engage with executive-level leadership at our client organizations to deliver the findings and recommendations
Actively engage in thought leadership development to support FMI’s point of view in the industry
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience running construction projects and/or service work within a trade contractor (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc.) or civil construction (highway, bridge, utilities, excavation, etc.) firm.
Demonstrated familiarity with the operations, strategies, and best practices of companies serving the built environment (e.g. construction and building/infrastructure services companies), including job financial management
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, economics, or finance preferred; MBA or an equivalent master's degree from an accredited top-tier college or university is preferred
Exceptional project management and experience leading a team in a fast-paced environment Strong emotional intelligence and track record of accomplishment
Proven leadership skills and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment in an ambiguous environment
Team oriented nature and ability to provide support and guidance to early tenure professionals
Time management skills, ability to manage competing priorities, and an ability to execute at a high-level under tight time constraints
Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Base salary starting at $125K plus annual bonus.
