The pay range is $73,000.00 - $132,000.00

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications. A role at Target Printing Services (TPS) means becoming part of a dynamic team that drives the strategy of internal partners such as Marketing and Store Operations through print and kitting projects.  The TPS team has a wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to planning, press, fulfillment and distribution, enabling us to positively impact guest and team member experiences while embodying Target’s core values.    

As Print Designer for Target Printing Services, you work in close partnership with Account Managers, Project Managers, Project Planners, and internal customers to translate vision and requirements into production-ready print designs. This role develops creative concepts, prototypes, mockups, and technical design files that enable efficient planning, accurate execution, and on-time delivery across a multi-shift production environment. The Designer operates with a high degree of autonomy and is accountable for design quality, file integrity, and production readiness across assigned work. 

Responsibilities 

Design & Production Readiness 

• Develop creative and technical design solutions for retail signage and print applications across a variety of substrates and constructions. 

• Focus on small-format print and structural design, primarily flat pieces, with limited 3-dimensional applications and occasional large-format work at a small scale. 

• Partner with Account Managers to understand customer vision, objectives, and brand standards. 

• Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Planners to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and executable within TPS capabilities. 

• Create digital design mockups, layouts, and visual concepts using industry-standard tools (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and others). 

• Lead hands-on prototyping, test runs, and design validation, incorporating feedback from Planning and Production teams. 

• Serve as the gatekeeper for in-house design files, ensuring accuracy, version control, and conversion of creative assets into production-ready files compatible with TPS equipment, substrates, and processes. 

• Partner with Production teams to confirm structural integrity, tolerances, and construction requirements. 

• Perform basic creative edits and file adjustments, including supporting variable workflows and adapting existing assets for production needs. 

• Provide clear design documentation and instructions to support consistent execution across red/blue and day/night teams. 

• Partner with pre-press on dielines and mechanical files required for production. 

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement 

• Stay current on retail signage trends, materials, and production techniques to inform design recommendations. 

• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to simplify designs, improve efficiency, or standardize solutions. 

• Support Planning and Production teams by troubleshooting design-related issues and refining solutions as needed.

About you: 

• 5+ years of experience in print design, production design, or a related field. 

• Strong understanding of print production processes, substrates, and finishing techniques. 

• Experience with print prototyping and production focused design required; variable data workflow experience preferred. 

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). 

• Proven ability to produce accurate, production-ready files in a fast-paced environment. 

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
