Principle Tech Architect (Ruby on Rails)

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Tech Architect (Ruby on Rails) to lead technical architecture, shape engineering strategy, and drive project execution—while remaining deeply hands-on (approximately 50% active development).

This role blends architectural leadership, delivery ownership, and engineering excellence. You will serve as the technical anchor of the RoR ecosystem, ensuring scalable system design, high performance, clean architecture, and consistent on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Architecture & Strategy

• Own end-to-end system architecture and define the technical roadmap.
• Design scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems.
• Establish coding standards, architectural guidelines, and engineering best practices.
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies aligned with long-term product vision.
• Ensure compliance, reliability, and performance standards (including healthcare-grade reliability where applicable).

2. Hands-on Development (50%)

• Develop complex backend systems using Ruby on Rails.
• Work extensively with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Python-based services.
• Lead performance optimization and implementation of complex feature sets.
• Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure high engineering standards.
• Drive CI/CD best practices and collaborate closely with DevOps teams.

3. Project & Delivery Management

• Lead sprint planning, technical estimation, and task decomposition.
• Ensure delivery timelines align with business objectives.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders.
• Identify risks, dependencies, and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
• Track engineering velocity and continuously improve team productivity.

4. Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Mentor mid-level and junior developers to elevate team capabilities.
• Conduct architectural reviews and enforce clean code principles.
• Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and technical excellence.
• Participate in hiring, technical assessments, and team expansion initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement across engineering practices.

Required Experience & Skills

• 8–12+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails (RoR).
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Working knowledge of Python for backend integrations or services.
• Strong understanding of system design and distributed architecture principles.
• Experience building scalable SaaS platforms.
• Proven track record of Agile project delivery.
• Strong CI/CD pipeline implementation experience.
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Excellent stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Good to Have

• Experience in Healthcare or MedTech domains.
• Exposure to AI-driven systems or workflow automation platforms.
• DevOps and infrastructure architecture experience.
• Experience in high-growth or startup environments.
