Principal Engineer (Groundworks)

We are a leading temporary works specialist and at the forefront of our industry for over 60 years, with a reputation built on engineering and service excellence. This enables us to deliver the right temporary works solution for our customers, whatever the scale or complexity of the project. Our customers include civil engineering and construction contractors, asset owners, and consulting engineering firms through to small builders.
Due to continued growth, we are currently looking a principal engineer to support our 50 strong engineering team.
Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will be a technical consultant to the team, providing technical support on the most complex and challenging below-ground projects.
A lead expert in the design of temporary works, you will advance the application and knowledge of engineering design, installation, product capability and effectiveness. Key Responsibilities
Drive Engineering excellence across our below-ground product categories, providing direction and advice by acting as a technical point of reference, thereby upskilling the overall team and managing risks
Review procedures and technical guidance to ensure compliance with the latest standards and codes.
Prepare temporary works designs and assist colleagues in the design and detailing of high complexity groundworks schemes, including the preparation of calculations, design risk assessments, drawings and kit lists.
Check high complexity temporary works designs providing feedback to the designer to ensure all designs remain safe, efficient and are of a high quality.
Develop and certify novel and innovative bespoke applications and designs using our equipment and bespoke additions to satisfy customer needs.
Assist in the production and checking of Technical Approvals (AIPs, Form Cs etc)
Contribute to the on-boarding and auditing of external consultants.
Support the Engineering Directors in the product, technical, recruitment and on-boarding strategies.
Contribute to the design and development of new products, providing input and guidance specific to below-ground temporary works.
Take a leading role in the training and mentoring of Senior members of the team. Act as a Supervising Civil Engineer for colleagues undertaking Initial Professional Development through the company approved ICE Training Agreement.
Prepare and deliver training and development material for internal and external audiences ensuring we share expertise and inspiration with customers and industry bodies
Maintain relationships with ultimate clients, industry bodies, design consultants etc to ensure Mabey Hire is the most trusted advisor in the product group area(s)
What You Need
Have a degree in civil/geotechnical/structural engineering
Be a Chartered Engineering with the ICE or IStructE
Have at least 10 years experience designing temporary works
Experience of designing and checking below ground temporary works (including cofferdams and basements)
An appetite for leading change and finding better ways of working.
The ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment

Experience working for a supplier or in a commercial environment
Experience developing new products
Experience mentoring and training teams
Experience working with Wallap, DeepEX, PLAXIS
Some experience working on site
