AECOM Enterprise Capabilities are currently recruiting for a Principal Engineer - Ground Engineering to join our busy and expanding experienced team. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of Projects, either as standalone commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. The responsibilities of this role include:
• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer in diverse geotechnical projects
• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on soil and rock data
• Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position in relation to geotechnical projects
• Provides specialized technical input to studies and designs for staff in geotechnical engineering
• Prepare and manage technical specification sections related to designs, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry standards and regulations.
• Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and tests for geotechnical projects
• Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete design elements for geotechnical engineering works
• Serve as technical advisor for the ground engineering team
• Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments in relation to tunneling projects
• Provides guidance to entry level engineers in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on soil and rock mechanics
• Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others
• Works as part of a ground and tunnelling engineering team with other engineers at the same functional level that can be from different EC offices (Poland, Spain, India, etc)
• Works within interdisciplinary teams in infrastructure projects design
• Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
• Identifies discrepancies in results in calculations and reports for geotechnical projects
• Performs quality control review of design calculations and drawings for geotechnical projects
• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision with emphasis on tunneling projects
• Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements
 
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering o Engineering Geology from a recognized University
• 6 years of proven track record of working on ground engineering designs for Transportation, Water and/or Electrical Projects
• Experience with international regulations and standards with emphasis on geotechnical engineering
• Proficiency in the use of specific structural engineering software PLAXIS 2D and 3D or similar
• Proficiency in use of geotechnical design software such as Roscsience, Geo Studio.
• Experience in geotechnical design for slope stability, retaining structures, foundations and soil improvement.
• Proven commitment with Quality Control Policy and Quality Management System.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).
Preferred Qualifications
• Master´s degree with emphasis in geotechnical engineering, from a recognized University
• Experience working in in international projects will be considered favorably
• US and/or Australia Professional Engineer license will be considered favorably
• Background in underground works associated with water and electrical projects would be considered as positive.
• Experience working with Common Data Environment platforms (e.g., BIM 360, ACC).
• Knowledge of software for generating geotechnical models such as Leapfrog, and for processing geotechnical data as OpenGround and Gint.
• Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
• Sponsorship for Colombia work authorization is not available for this position, now or in the future.
