We are seeking a Principal Architect – National Digital Health Platforms to lead the design and evolution of large-scale, population-level health data systems. This role is central to building secure, interoperable, and future-ready digital health infrastructure that powers disease registries, screening programs, and foundational healthcare registries at a national level.
You will operate at the intersection of public health policy, clinical systems, and enterprise-grade technology—translating complex regulatory and healthcare requirements into scalable, standards-driven architectures that enable secure health information exchange across the ecosystem.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
National Health Platform Architecture
Design and own reference architectures for large-scale public health platforms supporting millions of records and long-term longitudinal data.
Architect high-availability repositories for national disease registries and population screening programs.
Ensure platforms are resilient, scalable, and capable of supporting evolving public health use cases.
Interoperability & Health Standards Stewardship
Lead the adoption and governance of healthcare interoperability standards across systems and partners.
Define and maintain HL7 FHIR (R4/R5) implementation guides, profiles, and API standards.
Establish consistent data exchange patterns to enable seamless interoperability between disparate health systems.
Foundational Health Registries
Architect and guide implementation of core digital health registries, including:
Master Patient Index (MPI) / Client Registry
Health Workforce / Provider Registry
Facility, Services, and Asset Registries
Ensure robust identity resolution, de-duplication, and unique identification across national health ecosystems.
Data Modeling & Health Data Transformation
Design canonical data models aligned with global health standards.
Lead transformation of legacy clinical and administrative datasets into standardized, interoperable formats.
Enable cross-system analytics and reporting through consistent data structures.
Security, Privacy & Regulatory Compliance
Embed privacy-by-design and security-by-design principles across all architectures.
Define frameworks for consent management, access control, and data minimization.
Ensure compliance with national digital health regulations and international data protection standards.
Architect secure authentication and authorization mechanisms using modern identity protocols.
Architecture Governance & Thought Leadership
Establish architectural guardrails, standards, and review mechanisms.
Produce detailed architecture artifacts including blueprints, integration specifications, and decision records.
Act as the final authority on architectural decisions for national digital health initiatives.
Stakeholder & Ecosystem Collaboration
Serve as the senior technical advisor to government bodies, public health authorities, and clinical experts.
Collaborate with engineering teams, implementation partners, and vendors to ensure architectural fidelity.
Translate policy, clinical workflows, and regulatory mandates into executable system designs.
What Makes You a Strong Fit
7+ years of experience in solution or enterprise architecture, with significant exposure to large-scale platforms.
3+ years of hands-on experience in digital health, health information systems, or public health technology.
Proven track record delivering national or state-level health data platforms or e-health initiatives.
Deep expertise in healthcare interoperability standards and HIE architectures.
Strong understanding of population health systems, disease surveillance, and screening program workflows.
Ability to operate confidently in multi-stakeholder, policy-driven environments.
Technical Expertise We Value
Interoperability & Standards: HL7 FHIR (R4/R5), HL7 v2, DICOM
Clinical Terminologies: SNOMED-CT, LOINC, ICD-10 / ICD-11
Architecture Frameworks: TOGAF, IndEA, or equivalent enterprise frameworks
Health Information Exchange: Registry-based and federated HIE patterns
Security & Identity: OAuth2, OpenID Connect, encryption, consent frameworks
Data Platforms: Experience with large-scale data processing for population health analytics
Infrastructure: Strong background designing robust on-premise architectures
Impact of the Role
Shape the foundational digital health infrastructure used at a national scale.
Enable interoperable, secure, and future-proof health data exchange.
Directly contribute to improved disease surveillance, screening outcomes, and public health decision-making.
Influence digital health standards and architecture practices across the ecosystem.
