Position Summary:
The Press Brake Technician is responsible for the setup, basic programming, operation, and maintenance of CNC press brake machines to produce precision sheet metal parts and components. This position requires a deep understanding of press brake operations, metal properties, and the ability to troubleshoot forming issues to ensure high-quality, accurate bends in a safe and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate press brake machines to bend sheet metal according to blueprints, technical drawings, and production specifications.
Program and set up press brakes, including selecting and installing tooling, adjusting machine parameters (e.g., tonnage, ram speed, and bend angles) and conducting test bends to ensure accuracy.
Select appropriate tooling and determine correct bend sequences and back gauge positions.
Inspect raw materials and finished products for quality, using precision measuring tools to verify dimensions, tolerances, and bend integrity; adjust processes as needed to account for material variations.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and programming issues to minimize downtime, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions on press brake equipment.
Apply knowledge of metal characteristics (e.g., spring back, grain direction, and ductility in materials like steel and stainless) to optimize bending parameters and prevent defects.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on press brakes, including cleaning, lubrication, alignment checks, and basic repairs to ensure operational efficiency.
Collaborate with engineers and production teams to recommend process improvements, setup times reduction, tooling upgrades, or programming enhancements.
Assist with training less experienced operators when needed.
Support quality control and process optimization by maintaining documentation for all operations, maintenance logs, and quality reports.
Adhere to safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, while maintaining an organized and efficient workstation.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC press brakes in a production or job-shop environment.
Experience with CNC press brake programming.
Strong knowledge of metal properties, including mild steel and stainless, and how they react during forming and bending.
Proficiency in reading blueprints, bend drawings, flat patterns, and bend deduction charts.
Solid understanding of metallurgy, including how different metals react to bending forces, material thickness impacts, and factors like spring back and K-factors.
Familiarity with precision measurement tools (calipers, gauges).
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and forming issues independently.
Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks in a shop environment with potential exposure to noise and machinery.
Proficiency in English language (read, write, speak, and communicate in business setting).
What Makes you a Great Fit:
Problem Solver - Analytical mindset and systems thinker with strong attention to the details.
Strong Communicator: Ability to ask questions and share ideas
Team Player: A collaborative, dependable, and solution-focused attitude.
