Press Brake Technician (CNC Sheet Metal Fabrication)
Location: Newport News, VA
Schedule: Full-time | 1st and 3rd Shift Available
Pay: Starting at $18.00/hour (higher based on experience and skill level)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Press Brake Technician to support metal fabrication operations. This role focuses on programming, setting up, and operating CNC press brake machines to form and shape sheet metal components with a high level of accuracy. Candidates should be comfortable working in a production environment where precision, efficiency, and safety are essential.
Core Responsibilities:
• Set up and operate CNC press brake equipment, including loading programs and selecting appropriate tooling and dies
• Prepare machines for production runs involving light-gauge panel bending
• Interpret engineering drawings, bend schedules, and material specifications to ensure accuracy
• Verify measurements and perform quality checks using precision tools throughout production
• Identify and correct forming issues such as spring back, tool wear, and material inconsistencies
• Adjust machine settings or tooling as needed to maintain product quality
• Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and basic diagnostics on machines and tooling
• Maintain detailed records of production runs, including materials used and part counts
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace
• Work independently while making sound decisions regarding setup and production processes
Minimum Requirements:
• At least 5 years of experience operating CNC press brake equipment
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Knowledge of materials such as galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Solid math skills related to fabrication and measurement
• Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, and squatting for extended periods
• Comfortable working in varying temperature conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with graphical CNC interfaces
• Strong organizational and situational awareness skills
• Background in manual press brake operation
