Summary: 

Under the direction of LINC Manager, coordinate curriculum planning and activities for ESL/EAL children, ensuring readiness for kindergarten or community childcare. This role also ensures compliance with licensing, policies, and health and safety regulations.

 

How You Will Make a Difference:

Coordinate daily program/service delivery to ensure optimal outcomes in accordance with contractual requirements so that children continue to develop language skills and social behaviour and are supported in all aspects of their development.

Research and coordinate the planning of curriculum, prepare materials, and conduct classroom and other activities consistent with the philosophy of the program, ISSofBC and funder’s policies. Plan a yearly, multicultural curriculum to address the needs of parents and children in the preschool.

Assist with recruitment orientation and performance review of preschool staff and volunteers. Provide day-to-day direction to preschool staff and volunteers. Identify workshops/training opportunities for professional growth and development.

Ensure day-to-day program expenditures (snack, laundry) and operations are within approved budget parameters. Notifies the Manager, LINC in a timely manner of any emerging issues or variances.

Liaise with ISSofBC’s licensing officer from the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority as required. Ensure that licensing is kept updated and that licensing requirements for the preschool are maintained.

Oversee gradual entry of new children and their families into the Preschool Program and manage the waitlist.

Track and record child attendance, learning and progress, including New Track data entry. Maintain up-to-date records on children and ensure family files are also maintained which includes such items as referral information, feedback and future support or referrals. Prepare and submit reports according to establish procedures on daily attendance and teacher observations.

Support children and their families with information and referrals to other agencies as needed. Act as an advocate on behalf of all children in the program to enhance their health and well-being.

Ensure the ECEBC Code of Ethics is practiced at all times by the Preschool staff, volunteers and practicum students. Ensure that the Preschool is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practiced.

Liaise with community contacts and local agencies to support the needs of clients through referrals, facilitation of workshops and field trip opportunities. May be required to represent ISSofBC at external meetings.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring:

Early Childhood Education diploma/certificate with current certification to practice in BC and a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ recent experience in a licensed early childcare setting including supervisory or management experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Infant/Toddler and Special Needs training; training in Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Emergent Curriculum or other learning philosophies.

Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral English.

Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to working effectively with diverse populations.

Proven organizational and administrative skills.

Knowledge of emergent curriculum and demonstrated ability to maintain current in all aspects of Early Childhood Education.

Sound understanding of child development, and of children’s needs and awareness that the stages of development with each child may differ and is able to apply cross-cultural norms.

Skills and experience to support children as they experience different emotions and to model acceptable ways of expressing emotions.

Thorough knowledge of BC Child Care licensing regulations.

Valid First Aid Certificate required.

Possession of and the ability to maintain a clear provincial criminal record check.

Expected Hiring Salary: $29.12 -$32.04 per hour + BC ECE Wage Enhancement currently set at $6/hr (subject to change). Dependent on education, training, experience, and internal equity. Wage grids are reviewed annually.
