Prefabrication Technician (Starship Launch Hardware) - Level 4/5

PREFABRICATION TECHNICIAN (STARSHIP LAUNCH HARDWARE) - LEVEL 4/5

The Pre-Fabrication Technician is a vital role that will be responsible for critical operations supporting launch and fabrication activities with customers spanning the entire organization. They will join a team responsible for initial fabrication operations for structural applications such as waterjet and plasma cutting, shape cutting, press brake operation, sawing, wheel abrading, and others as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate a variety of fabrication machinery as required to meet production goals, including waterjets and plasma cutters

• Prepare components for weld, machine, and paint operations

• Manufacture complete parts with a waterjet

• Read, understand, and execute work instructions

• Follow process parameters and report up errors and improvements

• Perform work to the safety standards set forth by SpaceX leadership

• Maintain machinery to manufacture’s standards

• Maintain a clean and organized work area

• Complete projects within tight deadlines independently

• Complete communication loops regarding all job responsibilities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate

• 7+ years of professional hands-on experience with waterjets, laser cutters, plasma cutters, or similar fabrication equipment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• 10+ years of experience in fabrication role

• Ability to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints

• Experience with Flow waterjets, Plasma tables, large vertical bandsaws, wheel abraders, shape cutters, brake presses, or other similar equipment

• Experience with industrial hand tools such as grinders, saws, and drills

• Experience with blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and precision measurement and inspection experience

• Experience in any of the following software: NX, Flow waterjet software suite, Hypertherm, Rotary Tube, MasterCam, ProNest

• Ability to work on computers and learn and utilize manufacturing software

• Familiarity with industrial machine maintenance

• Material handling skills including forklift operation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral

• Must be willing to work overtime with limited notice including nights and weekends

• Occasional travel to other sites is expected

• Ability to work at elevated heights and in confined spaces

• Able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted; standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying may be required to perform the functions of this position

• Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain

• Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
