The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigeria nationals for the positions below at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.
Position: Power house superintendent
Contract: 3-year renewable contract
Location: Ibadan
Closing Date: 7 May, 2026
DUTIES:
• Supervise the overall maintenance of the powerhouse by carrying out routine activities to ensure a stable, efficient, and uninterrupted power supply to the institute.
• Lead and oversee the activities of electrical and mechanical subordinates within the powerhouse to achieve operational objectives.
• Coordinate the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of new equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, RMUs, and generators.
• Oversee the maintenance of all twenty-two (22) distribution transformer substations (industrial and domestic), including associated RMUs.
• Ensure the maintenance of approximately 14 kilometres of 11kV underground high-tension cables.
• Supervise the maintenance of approximately 3 kilometres of the institute’s 33kV overhead dedicated line.
• Manage the full operation of generators (3 × 1500kVA and 2000kVA units), as well as 11kV and 33kV panels and step-up transformers.
• Oversee tripping units, battery banks, and associated protection systems.
• Ensure the maintenance of the 5000kVA (5MVA) power transformer.
• Maintain accurate records of all powerhouse activities.
• Review and validate IBEDC bills prior to submission for payment approval and oversee the receipt of AGO for generator operations.
• Provide technical guidance and enforce safety practices among subordinates in line with powerhouse operations.
• Coordinate the activities of contractors and external service providers.
• Prepare and manage powerhouse staff duty and leave rosters.
• Liaise with PHCN staff on the maintenance of the institute’s dedicated power line.
• Report directly to the Powerhouse Manager and assume operational responsibility in their absence.
• Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATION:
BSc/HND in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related courses with minimum of eight (8) years’ performing a similar role in a well structured environment.
