Te Kura Mātauranga Pāngarau | Mathematics is seeking two early-career academics to join us as Lecturers on permanent contracts. This is an exciting opportunity to build your academic career in a high-performing, globally recognised department known for excellence in both teaching and research.

As a Lecturer, you will play a key role across teaching, research, and service. You’ll contribute to a collaborative academic environment while developing your own research profile and supporting student success at all levels.

Ngā Haepapa Matua | Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

• Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Coordinate courses and develop innovative curriculum and learning materials
• Supervise Honours, Masters, and PhD students
• Establish and grow a strong research programme with high-quality publications and external funding
• Collaborate with colleagues locally and internationally
• Contribute to service and leadership within the Department and Faculty
• Support a diverse, inclusive, and equitable learning environment aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi

This is a full-time (40 hrs per week) permanent role.

The remuneration range is $99,788 - $119,204 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

We’re looking for emerging academics who are passionate about teaching and research, and ready to take the next step in their academic career.

Essential requirements

• PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
• Demonstrated track record of publications in high-quality Mathematics journals
• Experience lecturing in Mathematics
• Ability to work independently across the full research and publication process
• Strong organisational skills

Preferred experience

• 2–5 years postdoctoral research experience
• Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g. student feedback, peer review, awards)
• Experience supervising or co-supervising postgraduate research
• Ability to secure or show potential for research funding
• Experience contributing to academic service and administration

We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to advanced Applied Mathematics teaching, including in areas such as PDEs, numerical methods, stochastic methods, or inverse problems.

Ability to conduct in-person and hybrid teaching in China is also advantageous.
