The Department of Sociology at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to join a team analyzing data from the Parents, Adolescents, and Siblings Study (PASS), an NIH funded study with 4 waves of data on 682 families examining the impact of family and friends on the emergence of alcohol, substance use, and mental health problems during adolescence and the transition to adulthood. The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in advancing this work through quantitative analysis, manuscript preparation, and next-phase study development.

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Sarah Mustillo and collaborate with external investigators from other universities. Further, there will be opportunities to collaborate with faculty from the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society and the ND Population Analytics Program on other research projects and to advance the candidate's own scholarly agenda as well.

This is a full-time, in-person position based in South Bend, Indiana. The twelve-month annual salary is commensurate with NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/grants-contracts/salary-cap-stipends). The position includes health insurance and university benefits as well as funds for conference travel and professional development.

The initial appointment is for one year beginning August 2026, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Required:

• Ph.D. in sociology, demography, public health, human development, economics, psychology, or a related field by the start date. Strong training in quantitative methods including longitudinal methods, growth mixture models, and within-family designs. Proficiency with Mplus or R. Evidence of peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred:

• Experience working with large-scale datasets. Experience with data management. Prior involvement in collaborative or grant-funded research.

The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, detail-oriented, an independent worker, and capable of contributing to both team-based and independent research.

Important: This predoctoral position is managed through a separate application portal and is shared here to increase visibility. If you are interested, please submit your application through Interfolio by March 31, 2026. Applications submitted through this posting will not be reviewed.

• CV
• One writing sample (published article or working paper)
• Contact information for three references

Applications received by March 31, 2026, will receive full consideration. Review of applications will begin immediately thereafter and continue until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to Dr. Sarah Mustillo at [email protected].
