Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking a safety-focused, mechanically capable Driver & Yard Operator to support our growing Portable & Mobile Storage Division in the Greater Vancouver Area. This role is ideal for someone who takes initiative, works well independently, and is comfortable balancing yard management, container preparation, and on-road deliveries.
Based out of our Delta, BC yard, you will operate an F450 truck and container mule, deliver portable storage units throughout the Greater Vancouver Area, and complete a scheduled run to the Sunshine Coast approximately once per week. The ideal candidate is dependable, hands-on, and comfortable using tablets, GPS systems, dispatch software, and mobile devices while maintaining a strong focus on safety and customer service.
Job Description
This position combines driving, equipment operation, container preparation, and yard management. You will work closely with dispatch and regional operations while operating independently in the field to support the delivery and maintenance of portable storage units across the Greater Vancouver Area.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Driving & Equipment Operation
Operate company F450 truck, gooseneck trailer and container mule for container transport.
Deliver and retrieve portable storage units throughout the Greater Vancouver Area.
Complete a scheduled Sunshine Coast run approximately once per week.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, safety checks, and walkarounds.
Secure loads safely and ensure accurate container placement at customer sites.
Maintain compliance with all vehicle safety and operational standards.
Yard & Container Management
Operate forklift and mule to load, unload, and reposition containers.
Organize and maintain the container yard to ensure operational efficiency.
Install GPS trackers on portable storage units as required.
Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on containers.
Assemble prefab office or door inserts and bolt-on modifications.
Inspect units prior to delivery to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
Communication & Team Coordination
Communicate effectively with dispatch and regional teams regarding schedules and job updates.
Update job status using tablets, GPS systems, and Web Time reporting tools.
Represent Make Space Storage professionally at customer sites.
Collaborate with team members across the province to support operational needs.
Qualifications
Valid Class 5 driver’s license with heavy trailer endorsement
Experience with gooseneck trailer
A clean driver’s abstract.
3+ years of professional driving experience preferred.
Experience operating commercial vehicles such as F-series trucks or similar equipment.
Forklift certification or equivalent experience required.
Experience operating a container mule or similar equipment considered an asset.
Mechanically inclined with basic tool and repair skills.
Strong understanding of vehicle safety inspections and load securement.
Comfortable using tablets, GPS systems, smartphones, and email.
Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach.
