Political Engagement Manager

As the Manager of Political Engagements – States, you will work with state teams and coalition partners to identify and evaluate landscape opportunities, develop a perspective on ability to make a difference in races for public office, and make recommendations to engage politically in state level elections. This role partners closely with AFP’s state teams and internal capabilities to support independent expenditure campaigns, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive successful outcomes across multiple states and races.
This role can be performed remotely or based in our Arlington, VA HQ.

• Develop preferred partnerships within internal stakeholders and capabilities to assist state teams in developing short- and long-term strategies that will build policy coalitions and advance the state’s legislative policy agenda.
• Constantly seek knowledge from internal and external partners to develop a well-rounded POV on the electoral/political landscape throughout the engagement.
• Develop strategies to effectively engage in and win state level races while also refining and honing strategies to increase likelihood of success.
• Manage partnerships with internal and external capabilities to successfully execute paid media tactics such as digital advertising and direct mail campaigns.
• Oversee campaign budgets and resource allocation nationwide to maximize impact and ensure strong financial stewardship.
• Coach and advise state teams on political strategy, campaign operations, and electoral best practices.
• Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations concerning independent expenditure.
• Lead with curiosity to innovative in political engagement strategies and have a commitment to testing new strategies.

What You Will Bring:
• A minimum of 5 years of political campaign experience either directly in campaigns, independent expenditures, or consulting.
• Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environment
