About The Role
The role of political analyst is an exciting new position at the Telegraph, and will be a leading voice in our political coverage.
As a senior journalist, you will draw on your experience to offer insight across all areas of politics - from Westminster intrigue to policy announcements.
There is a particular focus on must-read, deep reporting and explaining the implications of political events with originality and authority.
Key Responsibilities
• Providing analysis, long-reads and news on politics across the Telegraph’s platforms.
• Deep understanding of politics and a strong political contacts book.
• Contextualising political developments in order to explain to the reader their implications and significance.
• Authority in explaining what political developments mean - but also originality of thought. That doesn’t mean being arbitrarily controversial, but bringing a fresh eye to events.
• The Political Analyst’s work should become ‘must reads’ for anyone interested in politics.
• Contributing to leader conferences, informing and guiding the conference on political issues.
• Having a presence off-platform as a face of the Telegraph’s political coverage.
• Representing the Telegraph appropriately at external events and on other broadcast platforms as required.
Key Skills
• Significant journalistic experience of writing for a newspaper or website is essential.
• Expert knowledge of politics, ideally with a particular area of specialism, and an exceptional network of contacts across politics and related fields is essential.
• The ability to process multiple complex sources of information and present them in a compelling and coherent fashion is essential.
• Proven ability in filing clean, compelling copy to strict deadlines is essential.
• Experienced in both breaking news and working on longer pieces, projects, comment and features is essential.
• The ability to keep calm under pressure and work autonomously is essential.
• Experience of podcasts or video is desirable.
