MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or GED
Must be a US Citizen, at least 21 years of age
Valid driver's license
Must pass background check, drug screen, and psych evaluation
Utah POST Certification
Preference given to those candidates who possess a Utah certification as a Law Enforcement officer
*Lateral Applicants:
Upon successful completion of Probation (6 months), applicants may qualify for Master Officer which includes an additional 10% pay increase. Qualified laterals will be given credit for years of service and will not be required to take the physical fitness test.
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Police Officer is responsible for the protection of life and property, the detection and prevention of crime, the apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, and state statutes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Deter crimes and assure community through high-visibility policing
Patrol assigned areas and monitor activities to protect people/property
Investigate crimes and apprehend suspected law violators
Observe and respond to various situations or emergencies
Follow rules, guidelines and protocols
Conduct initial investigations
Gather evidence and ensure successful prosecutions
Produce internal reports and provide feedback on case status
Foster good public relationships and liaise with community groups or individuals
Coordinate operations with other emergency services
REQUIREMENT AND SKILLS
Excellent knowledge of standard operating procedures, judicial procedures, civil and constitutional laws
Knowledge and skills of law enforcement principles and practices
Adequate interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build effective working relationships
Sound judgement along with effective decision making skills
Conflict resolutions and problem solving skills
Responsibility, dependability, honesty and integrity
