Job Description

Parallel Systems is pioneering autonomous battery-electric rail vehicles designed to transform freight transportation by shifting portions of the $900 billion U.S. trucking industry onto rail. Our innovative technology offers cleaner, safer, and more efficient logistics solutions. Join our dynamic team and help shape a smarter, greener future for global freight.

PLM / CAD Engineer

Parallel Systems is seeking a highly motivated PLM/CAD Engineer to support the development, implementation, and optimization of engineering design and documentation systems. This role bridges engineering, IT, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless product data management, system integration, and process efficiency across the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in PLM platforms and CAD tools, a solid understanding of engineering workflows, and experience supporting enterprise-level system integrations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own and administer Parallel’s PLM environment, including SolidWorks PDM and CustomTools

• Manage product data structures, Bills of Materials (BOMs), document control, and engineering change processes

• Develop and maintain workflows, revision control processes, access controls, and lifecycle states within Solidworks PDM and Odoo (ERP)

• Lead PLM/CAD system upgrades, migrations, integrations, and enhancements

• Ensure data integrity, traceability, security, and compliance with company standards

• Support integration between PLM and ERP systems, including internal and external ERP platforms

• Create and modify 3D part models and assemblies in SolidWorks to support Hardware Engineering projects

• Generate detailed 2D manufacturing drawings, including GD&T, tolerances, and production-ready documentation

• Maintain CAD standards, templates, libraries, and best practices

• Support electrical/mechanical integration workflows, including third-party tools such as RapidHarness

• Collaborate closely with Hardware Engineers to translate design intent into complete, release-ready technical documentation

• Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and IT to streamline product lifecycle processes

• Provide end-user support, troubleshooting, and PLM/CAD training

• Develop technical documentation, user guides, and standard operating procedures

What Success Looks Like:

• In 30 Days: You gain a strong understanding of Parallel's internal systems and are able to independently navigate systems, support basic user needs, and clearly articulate current-state processes and improvement opportunities.

• In 60 Days: You have enabled engineers to experience noticeably smoother workflows, fewer data errors, and faster change cycles. You have enacted at least one documented process change that accelerates engineering productivity.

• In 90 Days: You have shifted the PLM/CAD environment from “keeping up with growth” to “enabling growth,” with improved data integrity, release speed, and cross-functional alignment.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field

• 3+ years of experience working with PLM and CAD systems

• Hands-on experience administering or supporting Solidworks PDM

• Strong understanding of product development processes and engineering change management

• Experience with CAD data management and file structures

• Knowledge of database concepts (SQL preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with system customization, scripting, or API integrations

• Familiarity with ERP system integration (e.g., SAP, Odoo)

• Understanding of manufacturing processes and product configuration management

• Experience with data migration and legacy system consolidation

• Project management experience or certification

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
