This role sits in the Council’s Community Group, which comprises of community focused services such as Hamilton Pool, Parks and Recreation, Hamilton City Libraries and the city’s three main visitor attractions.
The Parks and Recreation team maintain and development of Hamilton’s Park network for our community. Our work ensures Hamilton is beautiful, fun, connected, and meets our community wants and needs, making our city one we’re all proud of.
He angituutanga: The opportunity 
We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Playground Maintenance Officer to help keep our parks, playgrounds and public spaces safe, well maintained and enjoyable for our community.
In this hands‑on role, you’ll carry out scheduled playground inspections and repairs, ensuring all work is completed to specification, on time and to a high standard. You’ll also respond to unscheduled repairs, delivering timely solutions that meet agreed service levels and team leader expectations. You’ll take pride in maintaining assets so they are always fit for purpose and presentable.
Customer service is a key part of the role. You’ll respond promptly to customer needs and contribute to positive feedback through the quality of your work and your professional approach. You’ll also support other Parks and Recreation teams when required.
You’ll be responsible for completing timesheets and job cards daily, ensuring records are accurate and up to date. All plant, equipment and resources allocated to you must be kept clean, tidy and in safe working condition, with any incidents reported immediately to your Team Leader.
About you
You’re practical, organised and take pride in doing a job well. You work effectively as part of a team, follow instructions, and understand the importance of meeting timeframes, safety requirements and service standards. Experience in parks, playground or maintenance work is an advantage, along with a strong focus on customer service and attention to detail.

• ROSPA Level 2 playground inspector (preferred) 
• Current NZ driver licence - Class 2 minimum 
• Current first aid certification. 
• Experience in facilities maintenance, with previous experience maintaining playgrounds an advantage 
• Experienced in the safe and effective operation of all mechanical tools of trade 
• Experience in landscape maintenance and construction industry 
• A proven track record of thinking differently, acting with integrity, working together and making it happen. 
• Able to work independently with good physical fitness and able to cope with the demands of physical, manual work. 
• Strong work ethic, you must have the ability to plan things in detail and execute work programs using a range of resources and equipment. 
• Can-do attitude, attention to detail and able to manage multiple priorities, while always maintaining quality service delivery. 
• Flexible and adaptable to manage shifting work requirements and varying volumes of work. 
• Ability to work independently and within a team. 
• Passion for continuous improvement, solving problems and delivering efficient solutions. 
• Ability to think on your feet and problem-solve to ensure best outcomes for our customers and our team.

Starting at $30 per hour, dependent on skills and experience.
