Job Description

About Nexus

At Nexus, we help organizations turn complex data into clear, actionable insight — so the hard work behind artificial intelligence, analytics, and cloud infrastructure doesn’t slow innovation down… it accelerates it.

We’re a team of builders, problem-solvers, and collaborators who believe in moving fast, learning continuously, and doing great work together. Our role is to handle the heavy lifting of modern data platforms, governance, and cloud transformation so our clients can focus on making confident, strategic decisions that move their businesses forward.

We’re proud of the culture we’re building across the U.S. and India — one rooted in curiosity, ownership, collaboration, and care — and we’re excited to keep growing with people who want to do meaningful work alongside genuinely great teammates.

The Platform Engineer will be a hands-on owner of the NexusOne data platform implementation for customer deployments and large programs.

Working closely with the Platform Architect, this role focuses on building, configuring, integrating, and operating the NexusOne platform components across on‑prem, hybrid, and cloud environments. The Platform Engineer will turn architecture blueprints into working, reliable, and secure environments, with a strong emphasis on automation, observability, and operational excellence.

Core Responsibilities

• Implement and operate the NexusOne platform across on‑prem, hybrid, and cloud environments.

• Deploy, configure, and manage data services, pipelines, orchestration, governance, and security components.

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) for platform provisioning and upgrades.

• Implement integration points between services (e.g., Spark, Trino, Airflow, NiFi, Ranger, DataHub) and underlying storage/compute layers.

• Configure and tune platform components for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

• Implement platform security controls (IAM, encryption, RBAC, SSO) in alignment with architectural and compliance requirements.

• Set up and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting for platform components using observability tools.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in data pipelines, platform services, and underlying infrastructure.

• Contribute to and maintain runbooks, operational documentation, and platform configuration standards.

• Provide feedback to product teams on platform behavior, constraints, and improvement opportunities.

• Support client implementation teams by providing technical guidance, best practices, and hands-on assistance during rollouts.

Key Skills & Tools

Core Platform & Data Tools

• Spark, Trino, Airflow, NiFi, YuniKorn, Superset, Iceberg, Ranger, DataHub, S3 (or equivalent object storage)

Infrastructure & Automation

• Terraform or similar IaC tools

• Kubernetes (K8s), OpenShift (OCP), Docker

• Linux systems administration and shell scripting

• CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Argo CD, Flux)

Security & Governance

• IAM, SSO, KMS, encryption at rest/in transit, RBAC

• Experience implementing policies in tools like Ranger or similar

Monitoring & Observability

• Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, or similar monitoring stacks

• Centralized logging (e.g., ELK/Opensearch, CloudWatch/Stackdriver)

Programming / Scripting

• Python (preferred), plus Java or Scala familiarity

• Bash or similar scripting for automation and tooling

Ways of Working

• Practical understanding of distributed systems and data pipelines

• Comfortable working from architecture diagrams and requirements to concrete implementations

• Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills in complex, multi-service environments

Ideal Background

• 3–7 years of experience as a platform engineer, DevOps engineer, site reliability engineer, or data platform engineer.

• Hands-on experience deploying and operating open‑source data platforms (e.g., Hadoop/Spark-based platforms or Kubernetes‑based data stacks).

• Experience running workloads in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and familiarity with hybrid/on‑prem environments.

• Exposure to enterprise security and governance practices; able to implement controls designed by security/architecture teams.

• Comfortable working directly with architects, engineers, and customers to understand requirements and resolve issues.

Success Criteria

• Reliable, secure, and performant NexusOne environments deployed according to architectural designs and client requirements.

• Reduction in deployment time and operational issues through automation, standardization, and improved tooling.

• Stable platform operations with well‑defined monitoring, alerting, and runbooks.

• Positive feedback from architects, implementation teams, and customers on platform usability and support.

• Clear, repeatable implementation patterns and IaC modules that can be reused across multiple customer engagements.
