Photonics Engineer (m/w/x)

We are seeking a highly skilled Photonics Engineer to join our advanced optics and communication systems team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in optical communications systems with all its active and passive sub components (optical amplifiers, lasers, detectors, modulators and it's associated electronic components. You will play a key role in the design, development, optimization, and deployment of next-generation photonic and optical communication technologies.

What awaits you at Mynaric:
• Design, develop, and optimize fiber optical amplifiers for telecommunication
• Work on fiber-optic and free-space optical communication systems, including system architecture and performance evaluation
• Analyze and improve optical link budgets, noise figures, gain flatness, and signal integrity
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product development, prototyping, and testing
• Support laboratory testing, system integration, and field trials
• Contribute to technical documentation, reports, and design reviews
• Stay current with advancements in photonics, optical communications, and related standards
• Support on automated test setups

What you bring with you:

Required Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Strong experience with EDFAs and optical amplification technologies
• Solid background in telecommunication systems and optical networking
• Proficiency in optical simulation and design tools (e.g., OptiSystem, VPI, Lumerical, MATLAB)
• Understanding of lasers, modulators, detectors, and optical components
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience or good knowledge of free-space optical (FSO) communication
• Experience in system-level testing and performance validation
• Background in R&D or product development environments
