Reports to: Pharmacy Director
Job Summary/Objective
This position ensures the safe and effective use of medications by assessing for optimal drug
selection, dosing regimen, and drug therapy monitoring services across the health system. The
position will evaluate patient specific care plans and resolve medication related issues with the
goal of optimizing pharmaceutical care. This position requires an understanding of the various work
functions and activities associated with drug distribution, intravenous admixture services
(compounded sterile products) and the provision of drug information to the Medical, Nursing and
Ancillary staffs, and the community in keeping with Department of Health and Senior Services,
DEA/BNDD and Board of Pharmacy laws, rules and regulations
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities
• Prepare and sterilize injectable medications for hospital use, adhering to sterile technique
and safety protocols.
• Review and verify for accuracy, proper dosages, and potential drug interactions.
• Provide medication counseling to patients and healthcare providers regarding proper usage,
potential side effects, and interactions.
• Maintain accurate records of all medications dispensed and prepared.
• Oversee inventory management, ensuring the availability of required medications and
compliance with storage guidelines.
• Stay current on pharmaceutical best practices, new medications, and regulatory changes.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to pharmacy
operations.
• Collaborate with medical staff to develop and implement protocols for medication use and
safety.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
• Strong knowledge of pharmacology, compounding, and dispensing procedures.
• Proficiency in aseptic techniques for preparing injectable medications.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in the verification of medication orders.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and team members.
• Competence in using pharmacy management software and technology.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements for pharmacy operations.
Education, Certificates, and License
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree required or PharmD from an accredited college of Pharmacy required.
Certificates / License:
• Current license in good standing with the state of Missouri.
Experience:
• Previous experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting preferred
.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry pharmaceutical supplies up to 15 pounds.
• Frequent use of computer and pharmacy equipment.
