Position Summary
The Investigational Pharmacy Services (IPS) Pharmacist provides professional, clinical, and regulatory oversight of investigational drug use within UHN’s research enterprise. As a key member of the IPS team, the pharmacist is accountable for the review and operationalization of clinical trial protocols. This role supports UHN’s mandate as Canada’s leading academic research hospital by ensuring investigational pharmacy services are delivered in accordance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Health Canada regulations, institutional policies, and professional pharmacy standards.
The IPS Pharmacist works collaboratively with investigators, research teams, sponsors, and pharmacy colleagues to support high‑quality clinical research while promoting consistency, standardization, and continuous improvement across UHN’s multi‑site investigational pharmacy services.
Duties
• Provide pharmacist accountability for investigational pharmacy services in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Health Canada regulations, institutional policies, and professional standards.
• Review and interpret clinical trial protocols to determine medication‑use requirements and pharmacy feasibility.
• Provide professional leadership and collaboration in the delivery of investigational pharmacy activities alongside regulated pharmacy technicians.
• Serve as the primary pharmacy contact for investigators, research teams, sponsors, and monitors on medication‑related matters.
• Support regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and quality assurance for investigational drug management.
• Collaborate with IPS pharmacists and teams across UHN sites to promote consistency and standardization of practice.
• Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of investigational pharmacy policies, procedures, and workflows.
• Participate in education, training, and supervision of pharmacy staff, residents, and learners as assigned.
• Maintain ongoing professional development related to investigational pharmacy practice.
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPhm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), or equivalent, required
• Certificate of Qualification from the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada required
• Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Part A) required
• Hospital pharmacy practice experience preferred
• Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Experience in investigational or clinical trials pharmacy an asset
• Hospital pharmacy residency an asset
• Membership in the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists an asset
