Position Summary:
In the weeks before the lab course:
• Culturing of cells and perform and optimize one lab experiment
During lab course:
• Be present from 9 am until students are done with the lab work
• Supervise and teach students in the lab
• Check lab books, grade final reports, help grading student presentations
• Prepare experiments as needed, e.g. seeding cells
• Lab management, e.g. advise students in autoclaving, cleaning and lab maintenance
• Ensure safe and efficient lab work for all course participants
• Provide introduction/morning seminar for experiment
Qualifications:
A Teaching Assistant is a Graduate Student at the Master’s or Doctoral level, at McGill University, employed to assist a course Supervisor. Have ideally taken the course in the past.
Experienced with handling of bacteria and cell cultures (COS cells, CHO cells, lung fibroblast cell lines)
Experienced with 96-well plate assays; luminescence assays
Trained in lab safety (WHMIS), Biosafety cabinet training, hazardous waste management.
