THE ROLE
As People & Culture Manager, you'll be a cornerstone of the Courier team ā championing our values, our culture, and ensuring every person who joins has an outstanding experience from day one onward. You'll report to, and partner closely with, the Director of People & Culture, collaborating cross-functionally with our team of journalists, creators, and operations staff.
This role calls for someone who leads with empathy, maintains the highest standards of integrity and discretion, and brings genuine enthusiasm for building workplaces where people feel seen, supported, and able to do their best work.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Champion Culture & Values
Embody and model Courier's core values in every interaction and decision
Partner with leadership to align policies and practices with organizational values
Draft and send employee newsletter on a monthly basisĀ
Regularly post company updates and announcements in Slack
Drive engagement initiatives across the organization that foster a culture of belonging and connection: virtual events, trivia nights, monthly newsletters
Partner with Director of People on End-to-End Recruiting
In partnership with the Director, People & Culture, own the full recruitment cycle: sourcing, screening, interviewing, offer, and onboarding
Design innovative sourcing strategies to attract top talent that reflects our mission and values
Partner with hiring managers to define staffing needs and develop effective hiring plans
Regularly post and advertise positions on the company website, LinkedIn, and other niche job-boardsĀ
Train and guide hiring managers using best practices from the Courier Hiring Guide; keeping the guide current
Support the Full Employee Lifecycle
Serve as a trusted resource for employees on HR policies, procedures, and benefits
Implement programs that measure and enhance satisfaction, retention, and professional growth
Facilitate smooth new-hire onboarding
Conduct 90-day checkpoints and satisfaction surveys
Ensure annual training compliance for all full-time employees
Manage the annual internship program from sourcing through off-boarding
Maintain Compliance of Company PolicyĀ
Compliance champion that understands and anticipates the needs of a constantly evolving remote environment
Own annual compliance requirements for training
Proactive idea generation to improve current policiesĀ
Audit existing policies and recommend policy changes
Maintain HRIS & Operational Excellence
Maintain accurate employee data in BambooHR and ADP Workforce Now
Own the company-wide internal calendar and prepare materials for bi-monthly All Hands meetings
Support employee performance checkpoints and development conversations
Use data to drive insights to senior leadership to drive key understanding and decision making for people decisionsĀ
Handle Sensitive Information with Care
Manage all confidential employee, candidate, and organizational data with discretion and integrity
Establish and uphold protocols to safeguard sensitive information across the organization
WHAT YOU BRING
Required
Bachelor's degree in HR, business, or equivalent experience
Proven HR or recruiting experience
Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR practices
Demonstrated commitment to DE&I
High discretion with sensitive and confidential information
Continuous improvement mindset; resilience to learn from setbacks
Experience working in a startup environment
Ability to work independently in our remote environment
Preferred
Experience in a fast-paced, startup-style environment
Familiarity with HRIS and ATS platforms (BambooHR, ADP, etc.)
Genuine passion for employee engagement and a positive culture
Project management experience
Experience working in a union environment
