What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
As a Payroll Specialist, you will oversee the full payroll lifecycle for unionized construction employees, covering payroll processing, employee onboarding and offboarding in ADP, employee records management, regulatory and year-end reporting, while ensuring compliance with collective agreements and applicable legislation.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
Manage employee onboarding and offboarding in ADP;
Oversea and maintain employee records, including maternity and paternity leave, paid leave, absences, and sick leave, and other union regulated leave entitlements;
Process union payroll in compliance with collective agreements, provincial and federal legislation;
Produce payroll reports and ensure data accuracy across ADP and Excel;
Review time entries and ensure accurate calculation of regular hours, overtime, premiums, allowances, and union benefits
Respond to employee payroll inquiries related to pay, hours worked, overtime, leaves, weather‑related work disruptions, and other payroll or time‑tracking matters;
Review time entries, calculate wages, overtime, premiums, benefits, and final pay;
Prepare and validate T4 year-end filing
Administer WSIB payroll reporting and accident‑related pay adjustments;
Maintain ongoing regulatory awareness related to unionized payroll, including payroll and tax legislation, collective bargaining agreements, labor relations requirements, and related HR regulations.
Your skills:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Payroll Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field;
PCP or CPM designation (Canadian Payroll Association) is considered an asset;
4-5 years of payroll experience in a unionized environment;
Strong experience working with unionized employees, including union rules, collective agreements, and labor relations;
Prior experience in the construction industry strongly preferred;
Proficiency in ADP payroll systems;
Knowledge of Ontario employment regulations (ESA, WSIB) in unionized environments;
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
