Salary: $2,505.60 - $2,790.15 Biweekly

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Patrol Deputy provides general law enforcement services within Rio Blanco County. Duties include the enforcement of criminal and traffic laws; prevention, detection, and suppression of crime; preservation of public peace; and the protection of life and property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Enforces the laws of the State of Colorado and ordinances of Rio Blanco County
Responds to calls for service and emergency situations, including accidents, fires, and search and rescue operations
Apprehends and arrests violators; conducts criminal and traffic investigations
Assists allied law enforcement and emergency service agencies as required
Operates within the Incident Command System (ICS)
Uses force consistent with applicable laws, policies, and training
Prepares accurate and timely reports and documentation
Testifies in court and at administrative hearings
Serves civil and criminal process
Conducts vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections
Provides traffic direction and control
Maintains issued equipment, vehicles, and uniforms
Utilizes law enforcement databases, records systems, and technology
Promotes positive community relations and professional public contact
Attends and successfully completes required training
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and protected information
Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent. 2 years of general work experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess the Basic Certificate from the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training ( POST )—possession of a current First Aid/CPR card. Possession of an appropriate Colorado motor vehicle operator's license, and must be insurable under the County's liability coverage.
SPECIAL NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 years of age. Must have no conviction or plea of nolo contendere to a federal or state felony charge or crime involving moral turpitude or any crimes that would affect POST certification or which would violate any other County policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
Knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes Titles 16, 18, and 42, and a working knowledge of applicable law enforcement manuals, policies, and procedures. Must possess the ability and sufficient skills to obtain and maintain all required professional certifications as mandated by state statute and departmental policy.
Must demonstrate the ability to maintain proficiency with firearms, defensive tactics, self-defense weapons, and other departmental equipment following a reasonable training period. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively interact with law enforcement professionals, the courts, and the public. Computer proficiency is required to enter data into various databases and to prepare reports, correspondence, and other official documentation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described herein are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
This position regularly requires lifting, moving, and carrying files, books, evidence, and equipment, frequently exceeding 50 pounds. Duties may include restraining, dragging, and/or carrying individuals weighing between 100 and 250 pounds. Work assignments often involve extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and physically restraining hostile or combative individuals.
The position requires rapid physical response under stressful conditions and the ability to walk several miles over rugged and uneven terrain. Employees must comply with the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office Fitness for Duty Policy and successfully complete the Concept2 Rower Evaluation with a minimum score of 70% based on age, weight, and gender.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
This position requires work in a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation and the ability to work rotating shifts, including day, swing, and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Duties involve daily interaction with suspects and victims and require the ability to de-escalate aggressive behavior.
Employees may be exposed to physical injury when confronting suspects or assisting victims and may encounter hazards associated with custodial environments and emergency response situations. Tasks are performed in a variety of settings, including office environments and outdoor locations, with exposure to varying weather conditions, terrain, and potentially hazardous situations. The work environment can be highly stressful and, at times, dangerous.

May be required to submit to and pass drug or alcohol testing per county or departmental policies.
