Position Description:
The Parts Inspector is responsible for reviewing all incoming components and materials, which are typically CNC-milled or machined, and are used in Electrical Connectors for the ESP/Artificial Lift, Oil and Gas Industry. The Parts Inspector inspects, tests, and approves incoming components and materials to ensure that they conform to Engineering drawings and specifications. These processes include using measurement tools to measure and record dimensions, identify any defects or deviations to the Engineering drawings, and perform tests to ensure the quality of specific materials. The Parts Inspector is responsible for maintaining inspection records, reporting discrepancies, and the continuous improvement of the Inspections Department.
An ideal candidate for this position would have a strong attention to detail, be proficient with measuring tools, possess the ability to interpret technical Engineering drawings, have a strong mechanical aptitude to allow them to identify non-conformities or defects due to the manufacturing process, and have the technical knowledge and analytical ability to streamline processes to increase efficiencies. This candidate would have experience using AQL sampling systems, using a CMM or Optical Comparator, and experience using electrical testing equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include the following: (Other duties may be assigned)
Utilize measurement tools, including but not limited to Calipers, Thread Gauges, Micrometers, and Surface Gauges, to accurately check dimensions of components. Interpret Engineering drawings, record measurements, and confirm all dimensions conform to the drawing specifications
Identify, record, and document any discrepancies between measured dimensions and drawing dimensions. Notify Engineering and present discrepancy reports detailing any non-conformities. Use Electrical Testing Equipment, such as a Hi-Pot or Megohmmeter, to verify conformance of insulation materials to specifications
Clean, maintain, calibrate, or repair measuring instruments or test equipment, such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, or height gauges
Maintain meticulous records of all inspection reports, documents, and logs
Improve the Inspections Department by identifying inefficiencies, proposing tooling upgrades, and streamlining processes
Supervision Responsibilities:
None
Organizational Responsibilities:
Maintain an organized and clean working area
Report discrepancies to Engineering and rejections to the Purchasing Department
Transfer approved materials and components to the Inventory Cage
Use Inspection Reports to prioritize and complete inspections based on Manufacturing Sales Order due dates and Production lead times
Use various reports to document and record accurate data as it pertains to the Inspections Department
Minimum Qualifications:

Experience in inspecting machine parts against Engineering drawings
Experience using measurement tools, including but not limited to Calipers, Thread Gauges, Micrometers, and Surface Gauges
Strong documentation skills to record inspection findings and create reports
Strong communication skills to effectively report discrepancies to the Engineering and Purchasing departments
Exceptional attention to detail to thoroughly inspect components to ensure conformity to Engineering drawings, by identifying all discrepancies and non-conformities
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes, ideally a background in machining to understand processes used to manufacture components to be inspected
Experience using electrical testing equipment such as a Hi-Pot or Megohmmeter
Experience using a CMM and/or Optical Comparator
Experience with AQL Sampling system.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in Parts Inspection is preferred
Travel:
No regular travel is expected.
Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to learn and use reports in Microsoft Access
