Job Description
Job Title:  Part-Time Physical Therapist

Reports To:  Director of Special Services

Summary

The physical therapist prepares students to respond appropriately to the education program.  The physical therapist works with team members in the school to enable students to work toward their potential by improving, developing, or restoring sensorimotor function.

 The physical therapist is responsible for planning and implementing the goals of the Individual Education Plan (IEP.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Directs and/or provides consultative services to identified students
• Serves as a liaison to school personnel, family, physician, and agencies
• Orders, adapts, fabricates, and repairs equipment
• Attends and participates in Individual Education Plan and Student Improvement Team meetings
• Evaluates, assesses. and screens students
• Meets individual student’s needs
• Establishes and maintains appropriate records, reports, and procedures
• Set-ups, maintains, and cleans treatment areas and physical therapy equipment
• Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
• Oversees assigned budgets
• Supports the District’s educational mission for all students and implements all Board regulations and policies in a fair and equitable manner
• Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the superintendent or designee may assign

Qualifications

Certificates/Licenses/Endorsements/Registrations

•  License from the State of Kansas to practice Physical Therapy

Education and/or Experience

• Certification by National Registration Exam required

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals.  Ability to write clearly; keep detailed records; effectively produce reports, letters, and memoranda; and to carry out complex tasks.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of variables.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Employee is required to maintain a high standard of professional conduct.  Breach of said professional conduct includes, but is not limited to:  neglect of duty, dishonesty, engagement in acts that are contrary to district policy, unlawful activities, or any other conduct which is seriously prejudicial to the school system.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee is frequently exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person.  The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.  The employee must be able to meet multiple demands from several people.
