POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Parks Manager and assigned under the direct supervision of the Parks Foreman, performs seasonal parks maintenance and repairs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Picks up garbage and litter and disposes properly.
Maintains city parks, cemetery, equestrian arena, facility landscapes, and park strips.
Mows, fertilizes, and trims turf, repairs irrigation, prunes trees and shrubs, and pulls or sprays weeds.
May operate and maintain vehicles and equipment.
Performs miscellaneous repairs and maintenance.
Cleans and maintains park restrooms.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Age – Must be 16 years or older.
Education – N/A
Experience – No experience required.
Licenses and Certifications – Must pass a lift test of 50 pounds at time of interview.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of –
Aspects of park system related to maintenance and repairs
Skilled with –
Learning and following standard safety practices and procedures
Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing
Organizing assigned work and developing effective work methods
Ability to –
Use a variety of hand tools including rakes, brooms, shovels, pruner, etc.
Operate riding mowers
Perform manual tasks for extended periods of time
Follow specific and general instructions
Be team-oriented
Perform duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy and kindness.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires working outdoors. Tasks require a variety of physical activities. Regularly required to talk, hear, see, walk, sit, stand, reach, use hands/finger to feel, handle, and grip, climb or balance and stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. (Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions.) Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and dusty or greasy conditions. Occasional exposure to high levels of noise. May operate equipment and drive vehicles. Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on site, in field
Salary range:
$17.00 per hour
$17.50 per hour for return seasonals
$18.50 for returning seasonals in their fifth consecutive year
Anticipated start date: Season is March through November (Seasonal employment is not to exceed six months in duration)
