The Buffalo office of Lippes Mathias LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced paralegal who possesses familiarity with commercial litigation, real property tax enforcement and/or tax lien foreclosure procedures. The ideal candidate with have a strong understanding of commercial litigation procedures, foreclosure processes, and real estate law. This role involves managing case files, preparing legal documents, conducting research, and coordinating with clients, courts, and other stakeholders.
The tax enforcement litigation group handles over a thousand In Rem tax lien foreclosure proceedings each year. The process is extremely complex – requiring staff to be focused on organization and attention to detail. Our tax enforcement litigation group prepares, files, and serves necessary legal documents as well as engages in motion practice and/or litigation when necessary, coordinates auctions of properties, handles creditor advocacy in bankruptcy, and effectuates real estate closings on properties sold at auction. Our firm also monitors, tracks, and processes the high volume of actions, papers and inquiries associated with an In Rem proceeding and other tax enforcement matters.
This position requires a proactive attitude to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner, keen attention to detail, exceptional organization skills and the ability to excel in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities will include:
Assist in the formatting/drafting/filing/serving of pleadings and legal documents
Prepare and maintain checklists for foreclosure deadlines and other critical dates
File legal documents with the County Clerk and State Electronic Court Filing Systems
Prepare, organize, and manage a high volume of data
Assist with case review
Assist with due diligence, including order/review of title reports and lien searches
Preparation of conveyance documents, closing statements, affidavits, assignments, and customary closing documents for real estate closings
Handling of all disbursements
Coordinating signing of closing documents and signature pages
Interface directly with client and third parties throughout the transaction
Create/maintain electronic directories
Create/maintain filing
Prepare and send out transmittal letters
Save, print, scan, and file all transmittal documents on each file
Our ideal Paralegal will have:
A minimum of 3 years' experience as a Paralegal in commercial, municipal and/or bankruptcy litigation
Trial support experience a plus
Accurate typing speed of 65+ wpm
General office and computer experience
Ability to maintain composure under pressure
Reliable attendance
Experience with editing, revising, and drafting of legal documents
Knowledge of local, state, and federal court rules
Working knowledge of Pacer Systems and ECF
High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to complete projects with little direction
Ability to use discretion and handle confidential information
Ability to meet deadlines and produce high quality work products
Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
Experience with document management systems such as ProLaw and iManage
Salary range: $28-$35/hour. This is a good faith estimate for the position based on location and minimum criteria. Actual compensation may vary based on experience and other job-related factors as permitted by law.
