The Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi is Hawaiʻi’s oldest and largest non-profit public interest law firm with offices statewide. Through its dedicated staff, Legal Aid helps ensure justice and fairness for all by providing civil legal aid to the most vulnerable in our society.

 

Position Description

 

We are seeking a full-time Paralegal to provide client services to Legal Aid clients.  Areas of practice may include family law, housing, public assistance benefits, and consumer protection.  Responsibilities include reviewing applications, interviewing clients, gathering documentation, and assisting with document preparation and filing.  Legal Aid paralegals also participate in outreach and education efforts.

Candidates should meet the following minimum job qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred, but, at a minimum, applicants should have an associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent experience.

Two (2) or more years of paralegal experience, including both document preparation and client interaction preferred.

Familiarity with family law preferred. 

Experience in case/client management  preferred.

Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams) required.

Able to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships in small working group.

Culturally sensitive and able to work well with diverse, low-income populations, and familiarity with local community needs strongly preferred.

Demonstrable commitment to social justice or experience working with disadvantaged and/or low-income population, or issues affecting low-income populations preferred.

Able to perform multiple tasks with attention to detail.

Sensitivity to resource limitations.

Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.

Compensation: $21.74 - $28.80/hour commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Hybrid work schedule may be available; remote and in-office work based on a weekly rotation schedule, subject to program and office needs.  Hybrid working conditions are subject to change.
