PARALEGAL

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT BUREAU ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DIVISION

(Boston Office)

The Attorney General is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a Paralegal in the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Energy & Environment Bureau. EPD brings civil cases to enforce environmental laws, pursues other affirmative litigation and advocacy to promote environmental protection, and defends the Commonwealth in certain environmental litigation.

 

Primary Duties: The qualified candidate will assist attorneys in the Environmental Protection Division in handling high-profile, impact climate litigation and legal projects. The Paralegal will be in frequent contact with litigation attorneys, handle critical and confidential materials, and help ensure the highest level of professionalism in EPD. This is a fast-paced, high-profile work environment that requires the ability to work on a range of complex matters, often under time pressure.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Conducting legal research, fact gathering, and preparing substantive

Attending depositions, court hearings, and

Drafting discovery documents, preparing pleadings, and managing e-discovery

Organizing and maintaining files, reviewing documents and exhibits, performing advanced cite

Assisting attorneys in preparing for hearings, meetings, or

Communicating with attorneys, expert and fact witnesses, court clerk’s offices, and members of the

Screening and preparing correspondence.

Managing calendars, including the scheduling of critical dates, deadlines, and case-related

Completing forms, preparing and filing court filings, and maintaining and updating case management

 

Position Requirements:

Experience or interest in environmental law, climate change, and climate-related litigation.

Effective written and verbal communication

Analytical skills, sound judgment, and excellent attention to

Exceptional organizational and database management skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the capability to learn Office case docketing software.

Experience as a paralegal in civil litigation is preferred but not required.

Working knowledge of legal research tools, including Westlaw, is

Working familiarity with document hosting platforms.

Ability to understand legal and technical information and work

Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with people of various

Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

 

Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.

 

Salary:  $55,375
