Job Description
Overall Responsibility: The key purpose of this role is to execute the relevant Maintenance activities, spares management, execution of routine and planned maintenance schedules, provide support to maintenance teams in the execution of maintenance and ensuring relevant safety measures are in place.
Focus Area 1
Maintenance Execution
Execute maintenance activities and co-ordination of maintenance activities including annual shutdown and daily adhoc work
Analyse machinery and component life cycles by identifying failure trends
Verifying integrity of data captured by artisans daily
Updating job cards and maintenance schedules based on OEM manuals and historical performance
Develop cost and time estimates of planned maintenance work
Plan all required work on the planned maintenance schedule
Perform stores walkabout and review store bin holdings min and max
Carryout autonomous operations as per requirements
Interaction with departmental heads to obtain resources necessary for task completion
Carryout out work during the planned, routine, and opportunity maintenance windows by the planned maintenance schedule issued by the planner
Where requested, provide coaching, mentoring, and knowledge transfer of machine operation to shift based teams
Training of operators and shift artisans to close skills gaps
Focus Area 2
Plant Reliability and Problem Solving
Where problems have occurred during routine or planned maintenance activities, apply structured problem-solving approach to resolve
Where required calls in additional resources to assist in problems solving or escalate to Maintenance Manager for direction
Assist fellow team members to resolve problems on request
Take part, as a functional expert, in FFA’s on request
Ensure maintenance and cleaning day and annual shutdown programs are completed
Ensure all required asset care work is carried out and complies with asset care standards
Ensure spares needed to support asset care program are available on time and within costs
Identify asset care training needs in the technicians as well as in the shift teams and make recommendations
Analyse Pragma maintenance system to identify recurring problems and make recommendations to enhance the asset care schedules
Co-ordinates resource allocation of process artisans and machine specialist on maintenance and cleaning day and annual shutdown
Participate as a subject matter expert in asset care problem solving sessions
Focus Area 3
Plant Optimisation
Manage preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, which will include condition monitoring and other practices
Monitor job completion rates and report trends to the Engineering management team
CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) – implementation, optimization and management of the Shopware Asset Care system
Planning and optimising the most appropriate maintenance tasks for relevant equipment
Analysis and interpretation of maintenance history and feedback report preparation
Ensure ongoing communication with Engineering team, Production team and Production Planner
Work closely with engineering stores personnel to control spares and stock levels.
Projects – work closely with the project team to ensure efficient delivery of tasks involving engineering input
Manufacturing Excellence - support all manufacturing excellence pillar initiatives and routines
Requirements of the Role
Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) or equivalent
Minimum of 3 to 5 years production Engineering experience
Solid Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages
Understanding of Maintenance Processes and Practices
In depth knowledge of Packaging plant equipment and processes
Assertive leadership, good people management
Strong diagnostic ability
Preferred Skills/Competencies
Knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) e.g. SAP, Shopware and/or Pragma experience
Experience with CMMS preferably Pragma ‘On Key”, will be a distinct advantage Knowledge of TPM and RCM concepts and principles
Knowledge of MS Projects and MS Excel
