Your Impact
This role is central to delivering high-quality live race day broadcasts that power Trackside and online viewing, directly shaping the customer experience. As an Outside Broadcast Operator, you play a hands-on role in capturing and producing seamless, real-time coverage. From camera work to sound, vision control, replays, and even directing, your work ensures every moment is broadcast clearly, accurately, and professionally.
It’s a varied, multi-skilled role where you’ll work across different broadcast functions alongside the OB team in a live racing environment. Your impact is immediate and visible and supports smooth, consistent coverage that keeps audiences connected, informed, and immersed in the race day experience.
A Day in the Life
Based in Dunedin, this part-time role (20 hours per fortnight) involves travel across the South Island, from Christchurch to Invercargill. It’s a dynamic position with a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, some public holidays, and occasional late nights. Here’s a snapshot of your day:
• Pack, transport, and set up cameras and broadcast equipment for race day events.
• Operate and test equipment, ensuring communications are correctly configured.
• Collaborate with the Outside Broadcast team to deliver seamless, high-quality coverage.
• Support communication between the broadcast truck and commentators during events.
• Perform equipment checks, report issues, and assist with basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
Your Strengths
• Relevant experience as a Camera Operator or in racing/broadcasting is desirable.
• Strong understanding of camera operation or willingness to learn.
• Interest or experience in NZ horse or greyhound racing would be advantageous.
• Strong teamwork, communication skills, and ability to follow direction.
• Good physical fitness, stamina, and a full driver’s license (Class 2 preferred).
