Position Status: Two (2) Full Time (40 hours/week), Temporary Summer (May/June – August)

The Opportunity
Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is hiring two (2) Otipemisiwak Métis Student and Alumni Services (OMSA) Summer Students for our Edmonton Office. Reporting to the Métis Endowment Manager, the Otipemisiwak Métis Student and Alumni Association (OMSA) Summer Student supports the work of the Métis Education Foundation (MEF) / OMSA department by contributing to student and alumni engagement initiatives, community outreach, event coordination, communications, and administrative support. The student will also assist with data collection, reporting, and emergency response efforts as needed. This role helps strengthen connections with Métis post-secondary students and alumni through a Métis-centered approach to programming, service delivery, and community relationship building. The successful candidate must be returning to post-secondary studies in Fall 2026.
Responsibilities:
Support and assist the delivery of post-secondary student and alumni focused programs, services, and initiatives within the OMSA department.
Assist in the development, preparation, and distribution of materials and resources for Métis post-secondary students and alumni.
Contribute to the planning, coordination, and implementation of events, projects, and engagement activities that support OMSA’s goals and priorities.
Gather, organize, and analyze data related to student and alumni initiatives, and assist in preparing reports to help evaluate program reach, identify community needs, and inform service development.
Bring a Métis centered perspective to the development and delivery of student and alumni services, initiatives, and engagement opportunities.
Provide administrative and project support to the OMSA team, including scheduling, documentation, communications, and other day-to-day tasks as required.
Collaborate with the Métis Endowment Manager, Student & Alumni Coordinator, MEF Program Assistant, and other OMSA Summer Students to support departmental priorities and organizational goals.
Support the Rupertsland Emergency Response Program (RESP) as needed, including assisting with coordination, logistics, supply distribution, communications, outreach, and other response-related tasks to ensure timely and culturally appropriate support to community members.
Attend and assist with MEF, RLI, and OMG community events while representing OMSA in a professional and respectful manner.
Provide support to other departments within the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, as needed.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Post-Secondary education in Business Administration or a related field.
1 – 2 years of administrative experience is an asset. School or volunteer experience is considered valid experience.
Customer service experience is an asset.
Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with others and stakeholders.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as the ability to work with a team.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when working with clients.
Proficient with Microsoft Suite applications and online platforms including online/digital meeting applications.
Other Requirements:
Due to funding requirements, this position is open to Métis students only. This would include Citizens of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
Due to funding requirements, candidates must be between the ages of 17 – 29.
Due to funding requirements, candidates must be currently enrolled in full-time post secondary education and must be returning to school full time in September 2026.
Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events. This may include some travel.
