The Opportunity
Rupertsland Institute is seeking an Otipemisiwak Métis Student and Alumni (OMSA) Engagement Coordinator to join us in our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Métis Endowment Manager, the Otipemisiwak Métis Student and Alumni Engagement Coordinator supports the development and delivery of engagement activities for the Otipemisiwak Métis Student and Alumni Association (OMSA). The position plays an important role in strengthening connections with Métis post-secondary students and alumni across Alberta through events, outreach, and community engagement initiatives.
The OMSA Engagement Coordinator works closely with post-secondary institutions, community partners, and internal teams to support a vibrant Métis student and alumni network. The role focuses on planning and delivering events, promoting engagement opportunities, supporting student and alumni programming, and maintaining strong relationships with Métis learners throughout their post-secondary journey. The position also supports the coordination of OMSA summer students and assists with administrative and reporting requirements related to engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate events that promote the Otipemisiwak Métis Student and Alumni Association (OMSA) and support Métis student and alumni engagement across Alberta.
Support the planning and delivery of engagement initiatives including student meet-and-greets, alumni gatherings, workshops, and community events.
Represent the Métis Education Foundation and the OMSA at Métis community events, post-secondary information fairs, and outreach activities.
Build and maintain relationships with post-secondary institutions, Métis student associations, and community partners to strengthen student and alumni engagement.
Coordinate volunteer opportunities and community involvement initiatives for OMSA members.
Maintain accurate student and alumni engagement records, assist with data collection, and contribute to reporting on OMSA activities and outcomes.
Assist with communications and promotion of OMSA initiatives, including newsletters, outreach materials, and collaboration with communications staff.
Support the development and coordination of a Métis Student Advisory Council or student leadership opportunities connected to OMSA.
Assist in coordinating and supporting OMSA summer students and interns by helping assign tasks and supporting engagement activities.
Contribute to departmental planning activities and support program development aligned with the strategic priorities of the Métis Education Foundation.
Assist with events and initiatives within the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
Travel throughout Alberta as required to support engagement activities and post-secondary partnerships.

Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support engagement initiatives
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, Powerpoint), Google Workspace, data management systems and willingness to learn new software programs.
Timely and accurate completion of administrative and program support deliverables.
Effective coordination of meetings, projects, and work plans.
Knowledge of privacy legislation (FOIP, PIPA) and commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
Cultural sensitivity and awareness, including an understanding of Métis culture and social, economic, and employment barriers faced by Indigenous individuals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, community development, or a related field; or
Diploma in social services, career development, humanities, or a related field.
Minimum 3–5 years experience working in student engagement, community outreach, or post-secondary environments.
Experience planning events, workshops, or engagement activities is considered an asset.
Experience in non-profit or Indigenous organizations is an asset.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work a regular schedule of 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
Ability to travel throughout Alberta, as required.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Submission of a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
